Preparations are under way to improve Penketh's sewers as part of an ongoing scheme to alleviate sewer flooding in the area.
Warrington-based water company United Utilities has plans to improve the sewer network on Launceston Drive, Chapel Road, Maple Crescent, Thorn Close, Kirkwall Drive, Manston Road and Hall Nook.
New sewers will be constructed in Bramble Close and on the playing fields behind St Vincent's Catholic Primary School and Penketh Community Primary School.
Engineers will also be carrying out some minor works in Stanstead Avenue and Hamble Drive.
Steve Knowles, United Utilities' Senior Project Manager, said: "We are pleased that we are in a position to deliver these essential improvements to the area.
"In order to get started we need to set up a site compound on land off Hall Nook, which is now under way.
"Residents may notice an increase in construction-related traffic in the area.
"This compound will remain in place for the duration of our works in the area, which we anticipate will take 16 months to complete."
In order to minimise disruption the year-long schedule of work will be split into phases.
The first phase will see engineers increasing the size of sewers in Kirkwall Drive from outside property number one to the junction with Hamble Drive.
This work will begin right after Easter this year and is expected to take approximately five weeks to complete.
Steve added: "We will keep residents updated on the timings of the different phases of work we need to carry out and any potential disruption which may be caused.
"We will do everything possible to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum and we would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding.
"This is one of the many schemes our customers' bills help to fund and it will be well worth it when it's completed."
