Work to replace an old water main in Haydock will soon get under way thanks to United Utilities.

The Cheshire-based water company will be working on Millfield Lane at the junction of Haydock Lane from Monday, March 15.

The £200.000 scheme, which is expected to take approximately three months to complete, will continue down Millfield Lane and Kenyons Lane North and finish up at East Lancs Road.

Brian Jenkins, United Utilities' Project Co-ordinator, said: "This work is designed to reinforce the overall reliability of the local water network and reduce the risk of leakage.

"We will be replacing the old pipe with a modern plastic one, which will serve high-quality drinking water to the area's taps for many years to come.

"In order to carry out the work safely we will be using two-way traffic lights along the route, which will be implemented in agreement with the local highways department and will remain in place until the work is completed.

"We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause."
