New water pipes for Old Hall Street

26 March 2010

Old water pipes on Old Hall Street, Liverpool are to be replaced with new plastic ones thanks to United Utilities.

Engineers working on behalf of the company will use the latest techniques to minimise the number of holes needed in roads and footpaths to carry out the essential work.

The work - which is due to start on Monday, March 29 and is expected to be completed by Monday, April 19 - is designed to reinforce the overall reliability of the local water network and reduce the risk of leakage.

John Maher, United Utilities' Project Engineer, said: "Our work has been co-ordinated with Liverpool City Council to take place and be completed before the council starts its own work in the same area.

"In order for our engineers to work safely we will be putting a temporary traffic management system in place, which will include clearly signposted diversion routes.

"Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, but there may be some parking restrictions along the road.

"We would be grateful if residents could please make alternative parking arrangements where these restrictions are evident.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we thank residents for their patience and understanding."
