There are times when you may require a supply of water outside our normal supply arrangements.
In these instances, a standpipe could be the ideal solution.
Ordering a standpipe from United Utilities
Ordering a standpipe from United Utilities is easy - call our standpipe team on 01925 428240. We can normally approve your application over the telephone and arrange delivery within 24 hours. Our standpipes can be rented on a short-term basis and as you only pay for the water you use, this can be a cost-effective way of meeting your short-term water needs (see 'Standpipe charges' below).
United Utilities approved standpipe
The standpipe you will receive from us is a unique design and easily recognisable as a United Utilities-approved version. Our standpipes are fitted with an anti-pollution device to prevent any back-flow to ensure there is no risk of contamination into our water network.
Our standpipes contain a built-in water meter that records your water usage and you will be expected to provide us with meter readings during your hire period. Only standpipes ordered from United Utilities are allowed to connect to our network.
It is a criminal offence to use a standpipe other than a United Utilities approved version and you are subject to a fine of £1,000 for connecting to our water network without permission. Upon conviction for illegal use you will also be liable for any other claims made against United Utilities for damage or compensation as a result of the illegal connection.
Standpipe charges (from 1st April 2010 until 31st March 2011)
You can order a standpipe from United Utilities either annually or on a short-term basis (minimum one month hire charge applies).

Our annual charges include delivery and collection. In most instances, delivery will be within 24 hours of your application being successful.
As a standpipe customer you will be required to take meter readings on a regular basis (depending on your length of contract). We will then bill you for the water you have used.
