We were proud to sponsor The Big Bang, the UK's national fair celebrating young people's achievements in science and engineering.
A team of our volunteers attended the event in Manchester, which ran over three days from the 11th to 13th March, and was attended by thousands of young people from across the country.
The fair was an opportunity for members of the science and engineering community to excite and inspire young people, especially those who had never considered a career in the sector before. The Big Bang aimed to celebrate science and engineering talent in the UK and ensure this talent is nurtured for the future.
Those attending were able to take part in displays and demonstrations from leading UK-based organisations showcasing how science and engineering are part of our everyday lives. Students could also attend workshops giving them the chance to say what science and engineering meant to them and to find answers to their many questions and career directions. One of the highlights of the event was 'National Science Competition' - the UK's most significant competition to celebrate the first UK Young Scientist and UK Young Technologist of the Year.
Why do we sponsor this event?
At United Utilities we're committed to investing in the future. The Big Bang Fair is all about sustaining and encouraging an interest in science and engineering. The future input and innovation of young people is critical in solving some of the world's biggest challenges - dealing with climate change, developing carbon-neutral fuels and providing safe, clean water sources for all.
