Climate change and energy

Climate change affects every aspect of our operations.

We actively seek to mitigate the potential adverse impacts of climate change on our operations and we recognise and seek to reduce the impact of our operations on the climate.

We set out our carbon management strategy  in 2007 and have since taken steps to increase the amount of renewable energy we generate, reduce our energy consumption, integrate carbon emissions considerations in our investment planning and research and development and support the market for green energy through purchasing.

We report our carbon footprint annually. From 2010 we will be participating in the new Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme which will help to drive further improvements.

We have incorporated climate change adaptation considerations into our water resources management planning and investment planning, particularly around sewer flooding.

We have been an active advocate of responding to the climate change challenge, through our involvement in the Prince's May Day Network  and wider initiatives such as promoting tap water and water efficiency
